ABOUT THE IMAGE: These two hand-drawn storyboards come from the "Throne Room" sequence of Return of the Jedi, as indicated by their respective "TR15" and "TR46" labels. The green backing paper, to which the storyboards are attached, contains key VFX notes (e.g. information about animation, matte paintings, and background plates) as well as multi-colored stamps. The artist, David Russell, was responsible for storyboarding several other parts of the throne room sequence, including the moment Darth Vader chooses to betray the Emperor to save Luke.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM: Storyboard Drawings show what’s moving in each shot, and in which direction, so that the production team is crystal clear on the desired end result – which is exactly what a professional storyboard should do.
ABOUT THE FILM: Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi is a 1983 science fiction film directed by Richard Marquand. The film follows Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo as they reunite after rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. They then join up with the Rebel fleet to take down the evil Empire once and for all. The rebels attempt to destroy a second Death Star while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader return from the dark side of the Force.
