ABOUT THE IMAGE: Fantasia is a 1940 American animated musical anthology film produced and released by Walt Disney Productions, with story direction by Joe Grant and Dick Huemer and production supervision by Walt Disney and Ben Sharpsteen. The third Disney animated feature film, it consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski, seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Music critic and composer Deems Taylor acts as the film's Master of Ceremonies who introduces each segment in live action.

This piece shows signs of heavy production wear: multiple tears with sections of missing paper, considerable edge wrinkling and creases. The name "Hooper" has been written in pencil near the lower right corner of this piece. It likely refers to Lee Hooper, a "funny animal artist" for Dell/Western who drew comic illustrations featuring Disney characters in the 1940s-1960s. This model sheet could have been sent to Hooper as a point of reference for his comics or come into his possession later in life. The embedded date on this model sheet reads November 1st, 1939.

ABOUT THE MEDIUM: A model sheet is a group of character drawings illustrating different poses and expressions of a cartoon character. Because a number of artists worked on a single cartoon, these sheets were circulated to the animators to give a uniform look and feel to a character throughout a production.
