Michael Humphries
Michael Humphries is an artist who began his passion for art growing up in Tampa, Florida. He knew his destiny was to draw and paint, and when his family moved to Long Beach, California, his artistic abilities blossomed. He has been a background artist, visual development artist, and art director for Disney Feature Animation and Disney Television since 1977. He was nominated for an Annie Award as a production designer on Sony Pictures’ first 3D animated movie, Open Season. Michael was elected to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his dedication to the art of animation.
He continues working for Disney Fine Art, Collectors Editions in addition to teaching full-time at ArtCenter since 2007. Michael’s fine art paintings express a synthesis of decades as an artist in the film industry combined with his love of the American landscape. Through his skillful use of color, lighting, and texture, a story is revealed.
